Yesterday I wrote a couple posts about ideas I had for how to customize my Dodge Dakota. I thought about making it into:
I'm leaning towards Fun. Here's why - it's a light half-ton. It has lots of power to make a daily driver and fun little runabout. Say I'm back on the farm in 2-3 years and have a couple trucks--Fun and Mean. The light half-ton would be great for the Fun Kid. For the Mean Kid I need a 3/4-ton or more, diesel, granny low gear, dump bed, a winch that will pull your house off its foundation, gooseneck hitch, etc. Easier to adapt a light half-ton to be fun than to do all that.
So I'm going to set the monster, Meanest Kid on the Farm, concept aside for now and think about just making a daily driver that is just one big toy.

Flatbeds
I don't like the flatbeds that just sit on top of the truck; I want the flatbed to have wheel wells. I don't want a utility bed with big tool boxes, but some tool boxes that fit in front and behind the wheels would be fine.
Here are some pictures that seem likely:

Meanest Kid on the Farm - Concept Genesis
I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota SLT club cab with 169K miles. Used it for a farm truck and the bed and tailgate are beat up. Paint is scratched and clearcoat is bad on top. Mechanically sound (although no doubt the mechanical components are worn). Interior is what you would expect at this age, everything works but is tired and worn. Speakers are all blown.
My ideas at this point is to make this truck the meanest kid on the farm. Duallys with some lift, flatbed with headache rack, gut the cab and start over, paint with new color scheme, and new wheels.
